If you'd love to learn to sew clothes and build a collection of staple pieces for your wardrobe, our capsule wardrobe series is perfect for you! The series consists of 5 classes, starting with a wardrobe consultation and ending with sewing pants. You will have a wardrobe consultation, learn to  how to cut out a garment sewing pattern, sew, make an essential shirt, a dress, a knit top and a pair of pants. From start to finish we will guide you on your way to make a range of clothing that suits your body type and interests! With each successive class you will build upon previously learned skills setting you up t o be a confident sewist upon completion. You will receive a 15% discount on fabric purchased at Topstitch for your course. Although the current photo shows women's garment's, we are happy to accommodate men as well with a great selection of patterns!

Capsule Wardrobe Consultation - Tuesday

Summer I session: June 11th, 5:30-8:30 PM

Summer II session: July 23rd, 5:30-8:30 PM

In this 2 hour session, you will meet with one of our instructors who will consult with you on your current wardrobe favorites, your current wardrobe needs, discuss body type and any fitting challenges you might encounter when sewing for yourself (if you already sew for yourself). They will then help you determine the best type of garments to suit your body type and style. Your instructor will also go over the basics of pattern reading and cutting out your fabric in preparation to sew. 

Intro to Sewing - The Essential Shirt

Summer I session: Thursday, June 13th, 5:00-9:00 PM

Summer II session: Thursday, July 25th, 5:00-9:00 PM

In this 4 hour class you will learn to sew and make our Topstitch essential shirt pattern. We'll teach you the parts of the sewing machine and how to wind a bobbin and thread the machine. We will go over basic pattern reading, how to trace and cut your fabric. Then you will get to sewing the shirt. It is a boxy, simple pullover. With no fitting challenges and no fiddly closures, it's a perfect intro project. 

*If you already know how to sew, you can still come and make the top. 

Sewing with Knits - The T-Shirt

Summer I session: Thursday, June 20th, 5:30-8:30 PM

Summer II session: Thursday, August 1st, 5:30-8:30 PM

In this intro to knits class, students will make a knit t-shirt. In this class, you'll learn to work with knits, sew them on a regular sewing machine with a ball point needle.

Dressmaking - Advanced Beginner Dress

Summer I session: Tues & Thurs, June 25th & 27th, 5:30-8:30 PM both nights 

Summer II session: Tues & Thurs, August 6th & 8th, 5:30-8:30 PM both nights

In this advanced beginner dressmaking class, students can choose to make either the Stevie or Raglan dress. Each of these patterns are great advanced beginner sewing patterns, ones that bridge the gap between the simplest of garment patterns and more advanced dressmaking patterns. Designed with everyday wear in mind, each of these dresses features a slightly looser shape for a flattering, comfortable fit. 

Sewing Pants -  Advanced Beginner to Intermediate

Summer I session: Tues & Thurs, July 9th & 11th, 5:30-8:30 PM both nights

Summer II session: Tues & Thurs, August 20th & 22nd, 5:30-8:30 PM both nights

In the pants class, students can choose to make one two pants patterns. The two options include a tapered trouser with pockets and elastic waist or a slim chino trouser with an invisible zip. These pants cover a range of different skills, which can be discussed at your consultation and after the first couple of classes to determine which is best for you. 

Your patterns are included with all classes. In your first sewing class, you will learn to read and cut a sewing pattern. After the first sewing class, you will need to cut out your patterns and fabric at home before each class. If you need help with pattern reading or cutting out, just let us know and we will arrange to help you!

Fabric not included in the classes but you will receive a 15% discount on any fabrics purchased at Topstitch for the course. Check the pattern backs for fabric yardage required for your size. Bring your pre-washed fabric to class.
