Learn to Sew Your Perfect Wardrobe! - The Capsule Wardrobe Series
If you'd love to learn to sew clothes and build a collection of staple pieces for your wardrobe, our capsule wardrobe series is perfect for you! The series consists of 5 classes, starting with a wardrobe consultation and ending with sewing pants. You will have a wardrobe consultation, learn to sew, make an essential shirt, a dress, a knit top and a pair of pants. From start to finish we will guide you on your way to make a range of clothing that suits your body type and interests!
The 5 classes in the series:
Capsule Wardrobe Consultation - Tuesday, April 3rd, 6-9pm: In this 3 hour session, you will meet with two of our instructors who will consult with you on your current wardrobe favorites, your current wardrobe needs, discuss body type and any fitting challenges you might encounter when sewing for yourself (if you already sew for yourself). They will then help you determine the best type of garments to suit your body type and style. Lastly, they will help you choose the patterns that are best suited for your body in the capsule series.
Intro to Sewing - The Essential Shirt, Thursday, April 12th, 6-9pm: In this 3 hour class you will learn to sew and make our Topstitch essential shirt pattern. We'll teach you the parts of the sewing machine and how to wind a bobbin and thread the machine. After practicing some stitching, we will go over basic pattern reading, how to trace and cut your fabric. Then you will get to sewing the shirt. It is a boxy, kimono sleeved pullover. With no fitting challenges and no fiddly closures, it's a perfect intro project.
*If you already know how to sew, you can still come and make the top, alternatively, if you want to skip this part of the series we can modify your payment if needed.
Dressmaking - The Farrow, Willow or Alder dress, Tues & Thurs April 24th and 26th, 6-9pm both nights. In this advanced beginner dressmaking class, students can choose to make either the Farrow Dress, Willow or Alder dress. Each of these patterns are great advanced beginner sewing patterns, ones that bridge the gap between the simplest of garment patterns and more advanced dressmaking patterns. Designed with everyday wear in mind, each of these dresses features a slightly boxy shape for a flattering, comfortable fit. The Alder is the more advanced of the three patterns and best suited for those who already have sewing experience before the series.
Sewing with Knits - The Lark Tee or Coco Top, Saturday April 28th, 2-6pm In this intro to knits class, students can choose to make either the Lark Tee or Coco Top. In this class, you'll learn to work with knits, sew them on a regular sewing machine with a ball point needle.
Sewing Pants - The Ultimate Trousers, Alexandria Peg Trousers or the Sasha Pants, Tues & Thurs May 8th & 10th, 5-9pm. In the pants class, students can choose to make one of the three pants patterns: The Alexandria peg trousers, the Ultimate trousers or Sashas. Sasha pants are best for intermediate sewists ready for more advanced sewing. All three cover a range of different skills, which can be discussed at your consultation to determine which is best for you.
Your patterns are included with all classes. In your first sewing class, you will learn to read and cut a sewing pattern. After the first sewing class, you will need to cut out your patterns and fabric at home before each class. If you need help with pattern reading or cutting out, just let us know and we will arrange to help you.
Fabric not included in the classes. Check the pattern backs for fabric yardage required for your size. Bring your pre-washed fabric to class.
